SOULWAX LIVE IN DENDERBELLE

Imagine this: SOULWAX turning up to play a gig in your parents' backgarden: it happened to me!

Here's the story: I first met David and Stephen on the night David turned 24, back in 1999. They had played an awesome concert at the Festival Aan De Werf festival in Utrecht, The Netherlands. From that moment on, my girlfriend Joyce and I went to see several Soulwax concerts and spent many hours dancing to the tunes played by The Flying Dewaele Brothers.

At the time, David and Stephen hosted a tv show on an MTV-like channel in Flanders called '@lter8' and they deejayed mostly at Soulwax afterparties. Soulwax.com was up and running, but fansites were not around. I decided to dedicate a site to the Dewaele Brothers, providing information on their DJ sets and TV-show.

A Flemish newspaper wrote out a contest. The prize: SOULWAX playing a unique concert at a location chosen by the winner. I had nearly finished my website, so I took my chance and entered the competition. When the site finaly went online, David and Stephen really loved it so it didn't take long to make up their mind and pick me as the lucky winner.
And so it happened...

On August 15, 2002, SOULWAX turned up in the garden of my parents in Denderbelle, Belgium. Ready to go on touring the UK, the band showed up in their large tourbus, nearly blocking the entire street.

Soulwax take their work seriously, so even at this rather weird 'venue' they made sure they had a good soundcheck and they would play as if they were playing Glastonbury.

The Setlist:
- Funny
- Much Against Everyone's Advice
- What Now
- Saturday (Billy Jean / Koochie version)
- Scream
- Conversation Intercom
- Cut Some Slack
- Don't You Want Me
- My Cruel Joke
- Too Many DJ's
----------------------
- Slow Burn
- Poplife

Needless to say it was a once in a lifetime experience. Kevin and Joyce would like to thank all who made it possible!
