SOULWAX:
MOST OF THE REMIXES
On
October 22, 2007 Parlophone released a compilation of Soulwax remixes.
This double CD contains nearly all of their remixes and some new and rare
work.
The full title of the compilation is:
"Most
of the remixes we've made over the years except for the one for Einstürzende
Neubauten because we lost it and a few we didn't think sounded good enough
or just didn't fill in lenght-wise.
But including some that are hard to find because either people forgot
about them or simply because they haven't been released yet.
A few we really love. One we think is just OK. Some we did for free. Some
we did for money. Some just for ourselves without permission and some
for friends as swaps but never on time and always at our studio in Ghent."
The
album is also available on 2xLP and the band are performing their remixes
live for a limited time only. |

BIOGRAPHY (2007):
Soulwax
is Brothers David & Stephen Dewaele, Stefaan Van Leuven & Steve
Slingeneyer - four Belgians who many years ago inspired by the heavy stoner
rock of bands like Kyuss & Masters Of Reality, formed a band. Over a decade
and several albums later they have evolved into one of the worlds most
pioneering cross-musical forces, albeit confusing a few people and pundits
along the way.
The Dewaele brothers
also DJ a bit on the side under the name 2ManyDJs. Spawned from their
days of post gig partying to avoid boredom on tour they have quickly become
one of the worlds most respected and requested bookings at clubs, parties
and festivals around the world.
Why? Aside from the
fact that their massively influential mix album As Heard On Radio Soulwax
Pt 2 has sold in excess of 400,000 copies and that post 2manyDJs club-land
is an all together more eclectic and wildly more fun place to be thanks
to Soulwax, One of the major reasons is in the remixes you are about to
hear!!!
Despite the massive differences between acts like The Gossip,
Klaxons & LCD Soundsystem and mainstream pop acts like Kylie, Robbie Williams
and Sugababes, Soulwax have a knack of taking an original and transporting
it to an altogether more euphoric and often darker place. |
 |
Many of these were created specifically to bring havoc to the dancefloor
during 2manyDJs sets, as well as those of their friends and peers from
around the world like Tiga, Erol Alkan, Justice and all those who have
welcomed these mixes into their world. And it doesn’t just stop
there; Inspired by the Human League’s ‘Love & Dancing’
remix album, Soulwax remixed their entire last studio album ‘Any
Minute Now’ as the acclaimed ‘Nite Versions’ album in
2005 which spawned several massive club anthems in its own right and was
later fully replicated live to magnificent effect. The NME even referred
to it as “a muscular, Glamorous record that perfectly encapsulates
the excitement of modern underground clubbing.”
They have also helped redefine clubland in many other ways, often labelled
(much to their ultimate embarrassment) as godfathers of the likes of bastard
pop, mash-up, electro-house and even more recently nu-rave because they
have flown the flag for eclecticism without fear. Back in 98/99 playing
rock records in house clubs was more than just frowned upon- it could
get you bottled; nowadays there is a more defined happy medium between
pounding techno, disco, pop and even heavy rock.

Over the past three years Soulwax has curated, organised and toured the
world with their own Radio Soulwax parties; Nights specifically organised
and programmed to bring their friends and like minded acts/DJs like Vitalic,
Headman, Klaxons, Who Made Who, Simian Mobile Disco, Tiga, Erol, Justice
amongst others together to huge sellout crowds across in every corner
of the globe. It allowed them to experiment live and was the platform
for their ‘Nite Versions’ live incarnation to be unleashed
on the the public. The Radio Soulwax phenomenon and the chaos around it
is also the subject of a full-length film ‘Part Of The Weekend Never
Dies’ to be released later this year.
As with ‘Nite Versions’, Soulwax will be putting together
and performing the Remixes exclusively LIVE at a series of special Radio
Soulwax events to be announced shortly alongside 2manyDJs and supporting
line-up of artists/DJs.
Soulwax make amazing mixes that transport people and songs to a new place.
We hope you like them. They have also donned their 2manyDJs hat to create
a mix of them for you to listen to or lose your shit to in the privacy
of your own home, shop or party on disc two. Keep an eager ear out and
you will hear stuff that isn’t on the first CD.
