SOULWAX’ hotly anticipated film / documentary “Part of the Weekend Never Dies” will be available on DVD on September 8, 2008.

Director Saam Farahmand filmed Soulwax on their recent international dates, capturing all the excitement, chaos and humour of the world tour . Where the Beastie Boys filmed one gig with 50 cameras, Soulwax filmed 120 shows with one camera in Europe, Japan, US, Latin America and Australia.

This resulted in 2 films; a live music film and a documentary which includes 2manydj’s, Soulwax Nite Versions and features James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Justice, Busy P, So-Me, Peaches, Kitsuné, Klaxons and many more in behind the scenes footage, interviews and LOTS of music.

The DVD will also include a CD with the live concert, and will be available in a limited hardcover package including a 64 page booklet.

Several broadcasters have bought the rights to show Part Of The Weekend Never Dies. Thus, Belgian fans can watch the documentary on Canvas on August 28th at 23.20h CET. The movie will be introduced by David and Stephen.

So the first promos of the upcoming Part Of The Weekend Never Dies DVD has been sent out to journalists. I got mine too, so I can fill in some of the details (spoiler alert!)

CHEMICAL BROTHERS REMIX ON AUGUST 19

According to the Amazon MP3 store, you will be able to get 'Hey Boy, Hey Girl (Soulwax Remix)' as a digital release on August 19th. Furthermore, the Amazon page show the artwork of the new Chemical Brothers single 'Midnight Madness' so hopefully the Soulwax remix will be on the B-side.

The Guardian ran an arcticle on John.

Cutting Edge has some more info om the upcoming DVD release:

Part Of The Weekend Never Dies will be released on September 8. It will include the documentary and a live concert by Soulwax, compiled of footage taped on 120 different locations.

An additional CD with the live concert will be included. The DVD will also become available in a limited edition hardcover package, with a 64 page booklet.

The artwork was also revealed.

Though there's no news on the release date yet, you can allready have a listen to the Soulwax remix of Kids. Both 2 Many DJ's and Erol Alkan have been playing it the last couple of weeks and thanks to YouTube we can listen to it too. Off course the quality of those live videos isn't great, but it's clear that the Kids-remix is a real banger!

In an interview with Studio Brussel, Stephen revealed that the have just finished their remix of 'Kids' by MGMT. The band, nor their label have heard it yet, so let's hope they'll approve it for release soon.

He also said they are remixing a track by The Chemical Brothers, but it's still a work in progress.

Finally Steve said that they are touring the USA, Australia, Japan, Brasil and Mexico in October and they will take a break in November.

NITE STORIES

'Nite Stories' is an exhibition, inspired by Soulwax, which opens on Thursday June 5th in Warsaw. It consists of 11 acrylic paintings, based on photographs by Mark Hunter (aka The Cobrasnake).
According to the press release, Stephen took the patronage over the exhibition.

Soulwax have been added to the lineup of Sonar
On Sunday, David and Stephen are being interviewed on Spraakmakers (Belgian TV, Canvas, 20h15 CET).
The Belgian premiere of Part Of The Weekend Never Dies, next monday at Docville is sold out.
David and Stephen recently joined their dad in an interview on Belgian TV to talk about the Belgian World Expo of 1958.
There's a nice article with the Dewaele Brothers and Bruno Van Gils who designed the white tuxedos for the band. Read the interview I'll translate it in English soon.

I just got back from holiday, so here's a quick news update:
Part Of The Weekend Never Dies was premiered in London on April 24. The movie was introduced by David, Stephen and director Saam Farahmand (watch) and everyone who saw it seemed very enthousiast. Short item from Belgian television here.
Besides using a new POTWND backdrop, the band have put together a new live set, combining Nite Versions material with Most Of The Remixes.According to the Partizan Youtube page, the DVD will be released in August.

Other news: Gossip have released yet another compilation 'Rework It', which includes the Soulwax remix.
Meanwhile, NPG Records have taken down my YouTube vids of David and Stephen interviewing Prince back in 1999...boooh!!

MYSPACE AND TOURDATES

The official Soulwax Myspace is up to date with details from the upcoming documentary.
There's a small audio clip, a video snippet (which oddly enough has been removed from YouTube), and a whole lot of summer tourdates!!

The tour starts on April 23 in Brighton and they're on the road all summmer, finishing in Ibiza on August 29.

You can subscribe to a mailinglist if you want to know when they're releasing the film on DVD.

David and Stephen will be present at the premiere, the first part of the documentary starts at 8pm at STUK.

On April 29, Radio Soulwax presents Part Of The Weekend Never Dies at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. Other acts on the bill, apart from Soulwax and 2 Many DJ's, are Le Le, Goose (dj set), De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig and dj Joost van Bellen.

It was Dave Sardy, who produced Soulwax second album Much Against Everyone's Advice, who asked David and Stephen to remix the Rolling Stones for the movie 21. Sardy produced the soundtrack of the movie and talks about the Soulwax remix in this interview.

"There’s probably an age-dividing line on the Soulwax remix. If you’re over a certain age, you’re just completely and utterly offended by it, and if you’re under a certain age, you don’t care. You dig it or you don’t."

Here's some Soulwax trivia for you: besides playing drums in Soulwax, Tracey Bonham's band and The Stiffs, Steve was also the drummer of White Light Motorcade.

Besides Steve, White Light Motorcade consists of Harley Dinardos (vocals), Mark Lewis (guitar) and Tommy Salmorin (bass).

The band from New York is still around, check their MySpace page for some tracks of their new album.

Last night BBC1 DJ Annie Mac premiered a track called 'Disco Sirens' by Midfield General. She called it 'Justice vs Soulwax', which is a bit confusing. In fact Xavier from Justice produced the track and David Dewaele has mixed it.

Two new bootleg 12" records have surfaced recently.

The first one has the Soulwax dub of Ready For The Floor and also contains remixes of UNKLE and Dave Gahan.

The second one is even more interesting:
listed as Soulwax Remix EP Volume 1, it contains 4 remixes that recently became available on the Most Of The Remixes.
The only marks on the records are 'Soul01-A' and 'Soul01-B' and it includes the Soulwax remixes of Sugababes, DJ Shadow, Human Resource vs 808 State and their Kyluss remix.

According to the Videostatic website, director Alma Har'el of Partizan has been booked to direct a music video for the Soulwax remix of You Can't Always Get What You Want.
So does this mean the remix will also be released as a single?

The Soulwax remix of You Can't Always Get What You Want by The Rolling Stones can be bought through iTunes for a one week period starting February 19th.
You can download it here or listen to 30 seconds of the remix on our jukebox.

The Soulwax remix will also feature in Columbia Pictures' 21, which stars Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth, with Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Spacey. The film will be released in the US on March 28, 2008.

But it looks like the band is gonna show their documentary Part Of The Weekend Never Dies at the upcoming Radio Soulwax nights.

PRINCE TRIBUTE ALBUM

When David and Stephen got a chance to interview their idol Prince for TMF television back in 1999, Prince said he hated cover versions of his own songs. Thus, they didn't tell him they did a great version of Poplife and Starfish And Coffee.

Seven years later and behold: 'Controversy - A Tribute To Prince' will be released on February 4th, including the Soulwax version of Starfisch And Coffee!

To be honest, looking at the other artists involved in the project, I doubt if it's worth buying this tribute at all...
(hint: try to find the Benelux 2xCD edition of Much Against Everyone's Advice with the excellent International Hits bonus CD instead!)

So what can we expect from Soulwax in 2008? Well, they have finished editing their documentary 'Part Of The Weekend Never Dies', Das Pop is releasing their third album - produced by David and Stephen in March, watch out for their Rolling Stones remix, and they are ready to make a follow up to 'As Heard On Radio Soulwax pt 2'!

All this has been confirmed. Now let's speculate: Tiga is writing tunes for his new record and he wants David and Stephen to produce it, some more touring (Japan and Australia?) with the remix-project, more remixes, the release of the Die Verboten record...who knows?
One thing's for sure: there will be plenty of Soulwax to enjoy in 2008!

ROLLING STONES REMIX

Yes, that's right: Soulwax have remixed The Rolling Stones! Stephen and David revealed on De Laatste Show that they've been working on a Rolling Stones mix recently in their studio. During the making of the remix, a representative of the Stones' record company was present at all time, making sure they didn't abuse the mastertapes. Another nice detail: they had to sign a contract which stated they had to listen to any suggestions of Keith or Mick.
The Soulwax remix will be used in the movie '21' with Kevin Spacey. It will be released on March 28 in the US.

Well, what can we say? Soulwax and friends turned the freezing cold Flanders Expo into the most exciting club of Europe last night! Before coming on stage, 'very very very special guest' and local dance producer Regi performed some of his classic tunes. Foreign visitors probably didn't have a clue what was happening (he's the Laurent Wolf of Belgium ;)
I've never seen so many girls faint during a Soulwax gig, which is a good indication of how packed and hot the venue was during their show!

The new Hot Chip single 'Ready For The Floor' of their forthcoming album 'Made In The Dark' will be in the shops by the end of January.
Hower, the single has been leaked ont he internet, including the 8:13 Soulwax dub remix of the track (mind you: there is no vocal remix, they have only made this dub version). Look out for a limited 2x12" promo pack, which should be available soon.

The rumours appear to be true: Radio Soulwaxmas is moving from the ICC to the larger Flanders Expo venue, as David told Studio Brussel this afternoon. Good news for those of you still looking for tickets because they will become available again (I pity those people who paid over 100 euros on eBay the last couple of days!). But David assured us that it will not be a mega event like I Love Techno. The afternoon record fair will also be held at Flanders Expo and they will organise some more special events. And there will even be more names on the bill. David revealed two: Kitsune DJ's and Hot Chip!!

It's fair to say that Soulwax fans not living in Belgium had a hard time getting their hands on tickets for the Radio Soulwaxmas show. The Fnac website is only in Dutch and French and doesn't have a real policy for selling tickets internationally.
As we reported earlier this week, the event has sold out and obviously the first tickets are up for sale on eBay.
Looking at the current bids (from 80 till 100 euros for 2 tickets), there's still a high demand for those tickets. Please be careful when buying tickets through eBay!

JAPANESE RELEASE

Though I have no knowledge of the Japanese language, some webstores are selling the Japanese version of Most Of The Remixes. Released by EMI/Toshiba, the Japanese CD (TOCP-66740/1) features 'Stella Maris (Soulwax Remix' as track 20, instead of the hidden track on the European release.

Yesterday, news got round that Soulwax cancelled their gig for Dutch radio 3VOOR12 that was planned for Monday. All contest winners got a message that it was not going to happen. There was some confusion with the Soulwax management about the event being broadcasted live on the 3VOOR12 digital tv channel.

But I had a little chat with the band last night, after their excellent performance at the STRP festival, and they still want to do it on Monday. This isn't official yet, so we'll see on Monday!

It's official: Soulwax are playing for Dutch radio 3VOOR12 next Monday in Amsterdam.

On January 3 and 4 there's a Radio Soulwax evening at Paradiso and Melkweg in Amsterdam.

RADIO SOULWAXMAS TICKETS

I've received lots of emails concerning the presale for Radio Soulwaxmas on December 22 at ICC Gent. Last Friday the tickets went onsale and buy the end of the day more than 500 had allready been sold! So you'd better be quick to get your hands on one of those tickets!
FNAC is selling them online (the site is in Dutch and French only I'm afraid)

Tickets are 20 Euros and doors open at 9PM. In the afternoon there will be a record fair at the venue!

Finally Ed Banger Records is releasing Phantom pt II by Justice on 12" and digital, featuring the Soulwax remix. On the flip side you'll find the Boys Noize remix. It should hit the stores on November 26.

VPRO 3VOOR12 is airing a Soulwax special on November 26. The band will perform their remixes live and they're also doing a 2 Many DJ's set. The radio show is live from Desmet Studios in Amsterdam and starts at 10PM.
You can tune into 3FM here or watch the live webcast here. A small audience can come to the show as well, you can win tickets through 3FM and 3VOOR12 next week.

The band has replyed on the events at Chibuku, Liverpool, where they had to cut their set short after being attacked by the security staff.

"we've had lots of emails from people about what happened on friday (Nov 2) and the band send their apologies to anyone who came to the show at nation for the interruptions to the evening. circumstances beyond our control meant that we couldn't finish our live set or dj and we hope to be able to make it up to you soon"

CHIBUKU ISSUES STATEMENT

Chibuku organiser Richard McGuinnis issued a statement concerning Soulwax' gig last Friday in Liverpool, where the band got into trouble with the security staff and had to cancel the show. Drummer Steve was pushed into his drumkit by one of the bouncers, as you can vaguely see in this YouTube vid. "Both Chibuku and Nation are in agreement what when on was totally unsatisfactory and can never be given the opportunity to happen again" McGuinnis writes on the Chibuku forum. The Liverpool Daily Post ran an arcticle about the incident today. According to McGuinnis the band want to make it up for the fans as soon as possible. "I’m currently, along with others, (including) the band, in the middle of a huge investigation as to what went on. If anyone has any information they want to pass on to me, they should send it to rich at chibuku.com". To be continued...

STEVE HIT ONSTAGE IN LIVERPOOL

It looks like Steve had some sort of 'mashup' last night while performing at Nation in Liverpool, but not in a good way. "After encouraging the crowd to come nearer the stage a bouncer storms it and hits the drummer who falls into his drumkit and it all kicks off" writes 'Willchief'. You can watch a short YouTube video. The band didn't finish their live set, nor did 2 Many DJ's later that night.
