My parents got me my first 7” when I was 18 months old: ‘Born To Be Alive’ by Patrick Hernandez. But I must admit that Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ was the first LP that I was obsessed with. Until I left it in the blistering sun on a summer day in ‘82 and it warped beyond repair.
The first big concert I attended was in 1988, at the age of ten: the King Of Pop at Werchter. It was the beginning of dragging my parents to a lot of classic rock shows like Dire Straits, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd.. and the synth extravaganza of Jean-Michel Jarre in the years to come.
dEUS’ brilliant debut album ‘Worst Case Scenario’ changed it all in 1994. Out with the old, in with the new! Five years and lots of dEUS shows later, I got involved in building their very first website.
On May 23, 1999, I saw Soulwax perform at Festival Aan De Werf in Utrecht. You can read here, what happened next.
One of the advantages of working for radio is that I got a lot of opportunities to go to gigs and festivals. Below are some pics, taken of several crappy digital cameras and early iPhone models, over the last two decades.
